Richards was born in Downers Grove to an engineer father and coffee shop's owner mother. She was raised with her sister Michelle living in Downers Grove as well as Mokena. The model traveled to popular cities such as Paris, Tokyo, New York for photoshoots, and ads. Then, she entered the world of acting. Richards who is an animal lover was involved with numerous organizations that work for the safety and well-being of animals.
